My great grandmother read this book as a rural Arkansan in the early 1900s !! Loved the character so much that she NAMED HER FIRST BORN -- a daughter Thelma Guldmar!! When I finally found a copy I was THRILLED and the book didn't disappoint. I see why she loved the character Thelma!!! So thanks very much for solving the mystery with me. All I knew before was that she was named for a character in a book. My great aunt was born 1907 in rural Arkansas.Product details

Thelma Marie Corelli 9781514892558 Books Reviews
A good story but a bit drawn out. There's enough intrigue to keep you reading through the slow spots. I really enjoyed the descriptions and lore of Norway
i bought it because it's my name ... seems like a harder read than I like... will eventually finish this book
This is a great book, written in typical early 20th century style. It has excellent use of descriptive language with vivid word painting, excellent pathos and an intricate yet well put together plot. Recommended reading for those who like books that combine romance and adventure.
A good girl.
Good book. But the print is EXTREMELY small!
I read the simplified version of this book thirty years ago and was happy to find available the original version of the story for my collection. Be prepared for grammatical errors and disjointed pieces/chapters. I often got lost reading it. I sometimes wondered if this unedited version could provide leisurely reading to someone new who had no clues to the plot. I would recommend as a collection item. The book arrived intact and in a timely fashion.
Like all Corelli's books, it was a compelling story. This one was a love story, really idyllic; It begins in a fijord in Norway, describes the beauty of that far-northern area where a sensitive, handsome and rich group of young men are visiting with their yacht from England. They meet this breathtakingly beautiful Thelma and her stalwart Norseman father, the kind of people who live in the nearby village, their superstitions & religion, the town eccentrics, etc. It's a page turner, as all Corelli's books are. It has excitement, beauty and treachery of English upper-class society; yet it's very satisfying because it ends well. You learn a lot about life in the far north, the northern lights, the people, the cold, how they use reindeer to power their travels, and something about Norsemen life philosophy.
